Today the NYSE randomly halted around 11:30 EST giving little to no explanation. Experts say they were experiencing technical difficulties like some late night news show whose camera man falls asleep. Perhaps they were upgrading from Windows Vista, nobody really knows but they were clear it wasn’t hackers and the shut down only lasted for about 3 1/2 hours.

The “glitch” was finally corrected and the NYSE resumed trading right before the market close. As investors deal with a mass selloff across Chinese stocks, Greece’s debt crisis and now technical difficulties it was a pretty rough day. The day closed with Dow Jones Industrial Average declining 261.49 (1.5%), the S&P 500 dropped 34.65 (1.7%) and the NASDAQ falling 87.70 (1.8%).

With so many unknown variables in the securities market how can you truly secure and grow a healthy retirement plan? Is your IRA in good hands?
